Goku- Goku is the hero of the story.
He crashlanded a long time ago on earth, sent by saiyans on the planet Vegeta to destroy all life there. A man named
Gohan found Goku, and tried to raise him, but Goku was rough, and wanted no kindness from him. Then, one day, Goku badly
injured his head. After he recovered, he had forgotten his mission, thus growing up as a kind and loving boy.
Goku is unusually strong, and fights many evil enemies. He defeated the red ribbon army and eventually grows up to fight
much stronger enemies. During his adventures, he runs into many people that eventually become his friends..... or rivals.
Since he is no longer evil, he uses his great power to protect earth, rather than destroy it.
Gohan- Named after his adoptive
grandfather, Gohan is Goku and Chi-Chi's eldest son. He is idealistic, good and pure like his father. Gohan reveals
his tremendous fighting potential when the earth is threatened. His heritage as part saiyan and part human made him
stronger than if he were of one race alone. Piccolo, a former enemy of Goku, joins forces with the good guys and trains
Gohan for the upcoming battle with the saiyans. Over time, Gohan becomes friends with Piccolo and looks up to him.
Piccolo even says that Gohan is his one true friend out of everyone. Gohan is very loyal and brave, though he starts
out as kind of a wimp. He gradually gains great strength throughout the series and is the first to reach the Super Saiyan
2 stage.
Goten- Goten is the second son
of Goku and Chi-Chi, and is Gohan's little brother. Goten becomes incredibly strong incredibly fast and naturally turns
Super Saiyan at a young age. His best friend is Trunks, who is one year older than him. They are often seen
together. Goten goofs around when he fights, especially when fused with Trunks as Gotenks, where he makes
up many countless silly-named attacks. Pure of heart, he is always ready to help his friends and family, even if that
means jumping into danger.
Piccolo- The strong, serious, and
rarely compassionate Piccolo finds himself growing up on Earth instead of his beautiful home planet Namek. Piccolo is
first seen the second time Goku enters the martial arts tournament. He starts out as an enemy, but joins with Goku in
defeating the Saiyans Raditz and Nappa. Over time, Piccolo forms a friendship with Gohan, Goku's son. Piccolo
was origionally part of Kami, and is Kami's evil side. They seperated, and Piccolo got a will of his own. However,
if one of the two parts is in trouble, the other will dissapear with him. Piccolo is a Namekan, from the planet Namek.
He came to Earth and created the Earth's dragon balls. He is the second strongest aside from Goku, and is the first
person to teach Gohan how to fight. While training Gohan, Piccolo softens up a little and he and Gohan become
good friends. Gohan is the only true friend that Piccolo has. Piccolo becomes a good friend to all the Z
fighters over a period of time, but sometimes his nasty attitude will kick in.
Kami- Kami is the nicer side of
Piccolo. He is the gaurdian of the Earth before Dende takes over. He had the power to create the dragon balls,
and makes the first set for the Earth. Kami is very intelligent, and fuses with Piccolo during the fight against Cell
to form Super Namek Piccolo.
Dende- Dende is the only survivor
from his village on Namek when it fell under attack by Frieza. Unlike Piccolo and other Namekan warriors, Dende does
not have very strong fighting abilities. But he does have another capability: the power to heal. Trustworthy and
caring, Dende is very loyal to Guru and his fellow Namekans. Later in Dragonball Z, dende replaces Kami as guardian
of the Earth.
Krillin- The rather cowardly yet
brave when he has to be kind of guy. Krillin trained beside Goku under Master Roshi when they were young, and is best
friends with him and his son Gohan. Krillin has been through a lot, but he never gives up. He's always ready to
help Goku in battle even though he knows he can't be restored again with the dragon balls. Krillin can use a very unique
attack called the destructo disk, which can literally slice through mountains.
Vegeta- He is a powerful saiyan,
and a "Super Elitist" and prince, the son of king Vegeta, the past ruler of the saiyans. Though physically smaller
than Goku, Vegeta can power up to unbeleivable levels, destroying entire planets. He is a fierce rival of Goku's, seeking
to reach higher levels of power than him. Sometimes this gets to his head, and he becomes very cocky. Vegeta is
determined to destroy Frieza, whom he sometimes worked for as a saiyan. After the Namek saga, he joins the good guys
and becomes the father of Trunks. And as far as he's comcerned, if Trunks is old enough to walk, he's old enough to
fight and train. He always seeks a challenge from his opponents, and sometimes that is his downfall. Vegeta is
very strong, but sometimes it gets to his head and he overestimates himself and underestimates his opponents. Husband
of Bulma, he never really cares for her or anyone else until he sacrifices himself to destroy Majin Buu, but to no avail.
Bulma- Bulma is a technical genius
who can operate and fix almost anything. She is the one who discovered the capabilities of the Saiyan Scouter and modified it
for their own use. She also helps find a spaceship capable of making the trip to Namek. She even
designed and built the dragon radar, which tracks the positions of the dragon balls. She is also very fashion conscious,
and her clothing and hairstyles change throughout the series. Bulma has known Goku the longest, since he was a young
boy. She originally liked Yamcha, but later settled her affections on Vegeta. They had a son, Trunks.
Trunks- Trunks is the son of Bulma
and Vegeta. Trunks comes from the future to warn the Z fighters of the androids. He also warns Goku of a sickness
he will get and gives him the antidote from the future. Trunks easily destroys Frieza and King Cold when he first arrives.
The Z fighters immediately start training, and Trunks returns to his own time. He then returns to ensure that his comrades
can stop the androids. He is also born during the android saga, so we see him as a young boy and as a teenager.
He continues to exist as a boy and a teen until the end of the Cell saga, when he returns to his original time.
Yamcha- Yamcha is a longtime friend
of Goku's, though he was once a bandit. He is sometimes accompanied by Puar, his devoted cat companion. Yamcha
was anxious to be trained by Kami for the upcoming battle with the saiyans, even though he knew their chances of winning were
slim. Yamcha and Bulma were once together, and often illicit sparks fly for eachother, but Bulma moved on to Vegeta.
Tien- is a three-eyed man intent
on becoming strong. He originally trained under one of Master Roshi's rivals, but switched sides and became a Z fighter.
He defeated Goku at a martial arts tournament, can stop a waterfall with a blast, and can crush rocks on his head. He
has many special fighting techniques that include blinding opponents with flashes of light, the ability to hover in the air,
and to split into two or four seperat entities, (or clone himself.) Tien is excited about training with Kami, and is
the first one to volunteer to fight the Saibamen. He succeeds, and moves on to fight the saiyans. He can communicate
telepathically with Chiaotzu, his best friend.
Yajirobe- He is a very dumb and
rather worthless character. He cares only for himself and is a real coward when it comes to fighting. His only
strongpoint is that during the fight with Vegeta, he cuts off the saiyan's tail so he can't transform into a monster.
